One 60-day cruise around the Australian Coast was terminated following the tragic passing of an elderly lady who was left behind by the ship on a remote coastal location.

Suzanne Rees had been hiking on the remote island with fellow passengers from the Coral Adventurer, but separated from the party for a rest. The vessel sailed away leaving her and came back later that day after the crew realised the lady was missing.

An extensive search operation located her person the subsequent day.

Investigative bodies are investigating the event, together with police and the medical examiner.

The CEO of the shipping company said that guests and personnel on the ship were informed that the continuation of the cruise had been cancelled due to the "sad loss and earlier technical problems".

In a statement, he mentioned that passengers would be issued a complete reimbursement, and said the operator was working "to arrange the homeward trips of the passengers via specially arranged planes".

Regulatory bodies also issued an updated statement, and said they had "issued a notice to the Captain" preventing any additional guests from boarding the ship.

The official said that they would visit the vessel in the Australian city upon its arrival.

The vessel first departed the Australian port on the 24th of October, and was merely two days into the voyage at the time of the senior passenger's passing. Lizard Island was the opening port on the voyage.

The offspring of the deceased woman said that her relatives was "stunned and saddened that the liner left Lizard Island after an scheduled tour without my mother".

In her statement, she characterized her mum as an "energetic octogenarian" who was a affiliate of a hiking group.

She added that she hoped the inquiry would be able to determine what "the company should have done that might have saved Mum's being".
